At My Brother’s Keeper, we aim to be a neighborhood caregiver for the less fortunate members of our Baltimore community – but we couldn’t do it without your generous help. As the weather grows colder, many members of the homeless community (as well as those families and individuals who live below the poverty line) will struggle to find adequate clothing, shelter, and nourishment. During this season of generosity, we are asking that you consider hosting a clothing and/or food drive to benefit MBK. Keep reading to learn more about the items on our donations wish-list and how you can donate today.
Why Host a Food Drive to Benefit My Brother’s Keeper?
Together, we can fight the dangers of hunger and homelessness by providing hot meals, bagged lunches, special holiday meals, clothing items, and more to those in need. Through our Hot Meal Program we serve six meals per week September through May, and 5 meals per week from June to August. This averages up to 70 plates per meal, or over 18,000 individual meals annually. In addition, we work with local sources to provide a Bag Lunch Program so that our guests can access daily bread to-go and more options for feeding their families. We also host a special Thanksgiving dinner that unites and bonds the community. The charitable donations from your food drive will help us provide food security for those in need. Where and When Can I Drop Off My Donations?
If you want to host a food drive in your neighborhood or at your workplace, we suggest requesting a volunteer to transfer donations to our location at: 4207 Frederick Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21229. Donations may be delivered between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. during the school year, as well as on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. As an alternative, you can drop donations off at Crofton CrossFit (more info below) or at our location individually. Get creative! Decorating cardboard boxes to place in the workplace is a great way to raise awareness about the types of donations you are collecting.
Crofton CrossFit’s Clothing and Food Drive to Benefit MBK
Our friends at Crofton CrossFit have decided to lead by example and host a clothing and food drive to benefit MBK at their location in the Crofton/Gambrills, Maryland area! If you or a loved one happens to be passing through this area, please stop in during their usual business hours to drop off your contribution. There are two donation boxes set up in the lobby, one for non-perishable food items and the other for gently used clothing. Their address is: 750 Rt. 3 South, Suite 5, Gambrills, MD, 21054.
