At My Brother’s Keeper, we strive to create relationships with local organizations and businesses to help meet our goal of helping those in need within the 21229 area. A relationship that MBK has strengthened over the years is that with Our Lady of Victory. For years, OLV and MBK have worked together on several projects and outreach programs to help benefit our local community. Through both Cathy Menefee and Wendy Cottrell, My Brother’s Keeper has continued our relationship to help those who are in need.
School principal Wendy Cottrell encourages her students to get involved with the community through several collection projects throughout the school year. When asked about the OLV and MBK relationship, Ms. Cottrell said, “Each month, Our Lady of Victory Catholic School participates in an outreach project in order to serve those less fortunate. For the past few years, we have supported My Brother’s Keeper by collecting household and toiletry items to help needy people in the Baltimore area. Our student ambassadors help promote and collect items throughout the month as well as deliver the items to local agencies. Service is an integral part of who we are at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School as it reinforces our mission of living the Gospel values.”
For the month of October, OLV worked to collect personal hygiene items for MBK to distribute. For many 21229 residents who use food stamps in order to purchase their meals, personal hygiene items are unavailable to them. These items include deodorant, shampoo, body soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. My Brother’s Keeper is always looking for donations of this nature to help those in the 21229 community who are left without these basic essentials.
My Brother’s Keeper is as strong as our support. Our programs are based on community need as well as the grants available to us at the time. As our staff continues to work towards helping the community, outside help by way of donations and volunteers are always welcome! Become a part of something great and help make MBK where hope finds a home.
