The 6th Annual MBK Classic is taking place on Monday, September 12th at the Cattail Creek Country Club.

Recently, we told you all about J.P. Blase Cooke and his selfless and inspiring contributions to My Brother’s Keeper and the Irvington community he grew up in, knew, and loved. While Blase Cooke is no longer with us physically, his undying spirit and generosity has made it possible for MBK to better serve the less fortunate members of his community for years to come.

We are thrilled to announce that the 6th Annual MBK Classic is taking place on Monday, September 12th at the Cattail Creek Country Club! This charitable event combines a stellar golf course with amazing friends and the support of a wonderful cause that was near and dear to Blase Cooke’s heart. Below is an interview with Joani Van Tuyl, who worked as Blase Cooke’s assistant and office manager for 25 years and continues to work in the Cooke Family Office. Read on to learn more about Blase Cooke and the success of MBK Annual Classic in her words. (more…)

It’s a beautiful thing to give back to the community you grew up in well after you have made your peace, thus improving the quality of life for the generations to come.

Baltimore is rich in diverse neighborhoods, but those neighborhoods themselves are not always financially stable and thriving. In fact, no matter how well off a neighborhood may seem – there is always someone in need who could benefit from a helping hand.

Irvington isn’t just a southwest Baltimore neighborhood, it’s a true community full of hard working and devoted people who want the best quality of life for themselves and their neighbors. Let’s talk about how My Brother’s Keeper can help you leave behind a legacy of generosity to the Irvington community you know and love. (more…)

Mental Health and the Importance of Crisis Intervention

If you feel depressed, hopeless, anxious, or out of touch – you are not alone. There is help available to you.

If you feel depressed, hopeless, anxious, or out of touch – you are not alone. There is help available to you.

There are many sad truths about mental illness, but perhaps one of the most troubling is society’s attempt to sweep these issues under the rug. While mental health and behavioral resources do exist, it can be difficult for someone who is not well to identify that they need help – much less seek it on their own.

At My Brother’s Keeper, we understand the importance of crisis intervention and know that people who are affected by poverty or mental illness often feel isolated, trapped, or beyond help. We strive to be a neighborhood caregiver in the Irvington community. Let’s talk about how our specialized staff connects people in need with the resources necessary to regain their health and stability here in Baltimore. (more…)

How to Help Homeless Mothers and Children in Irvington

Monday, May 9th, 2016

Do you know a homeless mother or child in the Irvington community that needs help?

Do you know a homeless mother or child in the Irvington community that feels trapped or needs help?

Many people express gratitude and love towards their mothers during this time of year. Being a mother is a tough job, and not all women have access to the financial support and resources that they need to raise their children. There is an estimated 3,000 people without homes in Baltimore on any given night. Mothers and children make up over a quarter of this population. Depending on the nature of the situation, it can be extremely difficult for mothers to seek help safely.

My Brother’s Keeper works with Project PLASE to help the struggling or homeless mothers and children in the Irvington community. We provide various hot meal programs and social resources to those in need of emergency shelter, housing assistance, clothing, counseling, and more. Let’s talk about the Project PLASE Shelter Diversion and Rapid Rehousing Program in Baltimore.

If you know a local mother in need, guide her to this invaluable resource. You can also consider donating children and women’s clothing to MBK, including maternity and newborn clothes.
