It is no secret that school is important for a child. It is also no secret that in order to learn, a child must be in attendance at the school on a regular basis. While sick days do happen, missing a large amount of time from the classroom could hinder a child’s learning. Not only will their grades drop, other development could become stunted as well.

Hunger Myths of America

For those of us who work directly with those affected by hunger, to hear that hunger is a national problem never comes a shock or surprise. However, for those in the nation not affected by hunger, hearing that hunger is a problem in America is unheard of. Did you know that one in seven Americans turn to the Feeding America network for food assistance? Feeding America, through its network of 200 food banks and 58,000 feeding programs, provides food assistance. 46.5 million in the U.S. go hungry, including 12 million children and 7 million seniors.

It is no secret that the United States has a serious food desert problem. Recent studies show that an estimated 23.5 million people living within the United States currently live in a food desert. A food desert occurs when residents have a very limited access to healthy food options because of the distance between their homes and the grocery stores. Often times a grocery store can be found about 10 miles or more away from the homes.
